This desk assessment presents a review of the progress made in the implementation of interventions facilitated by the SADC Secretariat in collaboration with the Member States and International Cooperating Partners, in line with the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP), in order to address challenges facing the region in terms of socio-economic growth and development. The RISDP (2003), which is a 15-year strategic roadmap, provides the strategic direction for achieving SADC’s long-term social and economic goals. It also provides the Secretariat and other SADC institutions with clear guidelines on SADC’s approved social and economic priorities and policies and, therefore, enhances their effectiveness in discharging their facilitating and coordinating role.
